Chlorination tablets used in the treatment of water is a popular option because no complicated, scientific process needs to be used. The amount of chlorine that is needed is based on the amount of water it is added to and there are tables available to let someone know how much is needed to effectively render it safe to consume. When chlorine is being added, the process is simple.

All it takes is adding the appropriate amount of chlorine, stirring the water, and after 30 minutes it is safe for consumption. This is particularly helpful in emergency situations or a large supply is contaminated and clean water is needed as soon as possible.

4. Treats large amounts

Chlorine is extremely affective when treating large amounts of water for consumption especially in secluded areas or developing nations. Because in some processes the water will need to travel great distances to reach a recipient, the residual traits of chlorine are helpful to rid the water of contaminants and make sure it stays clean en route to its destination. Within modern and sophisticated water treatment systems, it only takes a small amount of chlorine to treat the water making it a more desirable and cost-effective process than other processes.

In poorer countries where clean water is not readily available and treatment facilities are non-existent, the chlorination process has a proven success rate in preventing illnesses such as cholera, dysentery, and typhoid that would have otherwise affected whole towns and villages.
